This is the tonal layer for an oil painting I'm working on now. It's based on a picture I took on the way to Yosemite several years ago. I've also made plans for a trip back to Wyoming next month. It's been 8 years since my last visit. Click here to see my route map and itinerary.

A day trip to San Francisco's Embarcardero.
June 15, 2006 A small 4.7 magnitude tremblor shook the San Jose area around 5:25 this morning. The epicenter was about 25 miles southeast near the town of Gilroy. A minor quake with little or no damage.

A longboard contest was held in Santa Cruz this weekend. The surfers were mostly older guys. Conditions were fair. Surf was pretty small as the summer weather patterns have begun to settle in.

Like many people, HDTV sets in store display windows have caught my eye for some time now. Until recently, however, the prices have been out of reach for my budget. The other day I was in Best Buy checking the Sharp Aquos for about $1,200. I went back today to see it again and it was moved from its original display area. While I was looking around for it, I spotted this Westinghouse LTV-32w6 on sale. The picture quality looked as good as the Aquos AND it was $200 less. Besides the HD programs in wide-screen format, I also like that I can plug my PC into it and use it as a 32" LCD monitor.

Life has become a tedious routine for me in this mechanical, seven day cycle we call a society. I work all day, come home and sit in front of the entertainment center for a few hours before bed, then get up and do it again. I long for those bygone days of youth, piling into a car with a bunch of friends and tearing down the road with the stereo cranking and the beer and laughter flowing. Between bouts of drugery I find time to drive down to Santa Cruz on the weekends in search of surf. Summer weather patterns settling in; calmer seas mean less surf.

I drove down to Santa Cruz to get some time on my new board. Took a week off from work and decided to stay local. The hotel was near enough to the surf that I could suit up and walk down every day.

Holiday cards from home. Another year older. This is getting strange. Somebody find me a time-machine. I want to be 25 again.

The local news station announced the commencement of the Mavericks Big Wave Surf Contest. Not wanting to miss my chance to see it live, I grabbed the camcorder and digital camera and made the 1 hour drive to Half Moon Bay to watch and photograph the event.

Mount Hamilton is one of the tallest peaks of the Diablo Mountain Range just east of San Jose. It is home to the James Lick Observatory. It's a scenic drive to the summit and once there, I toured the facility and watched a presentation about the telescope's history by one of the volunteers in the viewing room.![]() Copyright © 2003 - 2008 Todd A.
