The Santa Cruz Boardwalk sits on a mile-long stretch of beach between Monterey and San Francisco. Admission is free and the boardwalk is open daily during the summer months and weekends only in the off-season. The Santa Cruz Wharf offers seaside shopping, dining, and recreation -- everything from handmade arts & crafts to beach apparel, outdoor fresh fish markets, whale watching and fishing trips, as well as kayaking. ![]() |

Lighthouse Point is a good place to watch the surfers. Called Steamer Lane, this spot is well-known for its big, well-shaped waves. There's also a nice, old lighthouse that's been converted into a surfing museum. It's free and open to the public daily throughout the warmer seasons. ![]() |
